This year’s Charlotte Concerts Crown Jewels Ball was titled the Cugat Club, an ode to Cuba’s heyday and the Rumba music of famous bandleader Xavier Cugat. Gala chair Clair Campbell, along with longtime supporters Sandy and Claude Hamilton, hosted the Latin-themed evening at Quail Hollow Club. Guests enjoyed cocktails, silent and live auctions, dinner and dancing to The Cugat Club Rumba Kings Orchestra. Proceeds benefit Charlotte Concerts’ mission of presenting concerts featuring the finest in internationally acclaimed performing artists and providing music education opportunities for students.
Although its mission remains the same, Charlotte Concerts is undergoing an exciting evolution in its 90 year history of bringing the best in classical music by performers from around the world to Charlotte. Beginning next year, Charlotte Concerts will have a new permanent home: Queens University of Charlotte’s Sarah Belk Gambrell Center for Arts & Civic Engagement. www.charlotteconcerts.org.
